Sometimes to change our behavior, we need to see it in a new light. Here is something you can try. Get a set of two different colored objects, like black and white go stones or checkers. As you spend your time, every half an hour or so, ask yourself if you spent it on your top priority item, or if it was spent on other things. Put a black stone in a bowl for the high priority item, put a white stone in for other stuff. At the end of the day, look at your bowl. How many black stones?
I find this exercise to be a useful reminder. I want my bowl to have lots of black stones, but too often find a bowl full of white stones. Each time I put a stone in the bowl, I am reminding myself of my goals.
